Specialized Technical Capabilities
Eastern brings specialized expertise critical to construction, including experience with specialized learning environments such as laboratories, maker spaces, performance venues, and athletic facilities with unique technical requirements, high performance building envelopes and systems that support healthy, comfortable, and energy efficient spaces, geothermal systems and sustainable building practices, and mass timber construction for low carbon, innovative, world-class facilities.

Services include early advisory and preconstruction, procurement and contract packaging strategies, construction management and site execution with disciplined planning and health and safety leadership, cost schedule, change management services, and post-construction services including commissioning turnover and closeout support.

Eastern is a leader in executing mass-timber facilities, we have completed more large-scale mass-timber projects in Greater Toronto Area than any other contractor.
Eastern brings deep, hands-on experience in the complexities of mass-timber delivery. Our team delivered 80 Atlantic, the first mass-timber commercial building in Toronto in nearly a century, and we are now constructing our fifth mass-timber facility, the Peel Regional Police Operational Support Facility, the first large-scale mass-timber law enforcement facility in Ontario.
Eastern has developed a strong and growing portfolio of mass timber work, reflecting both technical capability and a commitment to progressive, low carbon building solutions.
Over the span of a decade, Eastern has completed, and is currently constructing over 700,000 sq. ft. of large-scale mass-timber projects, valued at over $700 million.
Our typical mass timber scope includes early coordination with structural engineers, fabricators, and authorities having jurisdiction to de-risk approvals and detailing mass-timber systems, along with careful management of procurement and logistics for prefabricated timber components. Eastern will oversee and coordinate the complex erection sequencing and tolerance control, while also integrating mass-timber with high performance building envelopes and MEP systems while maintaining fire and code compliance.
Throughout construction, we implement strict quality control and protection measures to safeguard timber elements and ensure long term performance.
Preconstruction Services
Eastern delivers successful projects through strong leadership and a highly collaborative culture that brings out the best contributions from every stakeholder. We get involved early in preconstruction to understand our clients’ aspirations and vision, to develop strategies that protect key design features while finding smart economies elsewhere. This collaborative approach helps us meet schedule and budget targets while delivering high-quality facilities.
Construction Phase
Eastern takes a cooperative leadership role on every project, coordinating the full team on behalf of the owner. We balance the perspectives of the owner and design partners while managing schedule and budget, and we provide early input on constructability, phasing, schedule and cost control, and risk management to set the project up for long-term success.
Post Construction Phase
Eastern understands that project close out can be challenging, which is why we start early, monitor progress closely, and stay committed through to final completion. Drawing on experience from thousands of successfully closed projects, we focus on making the post-construction and substantial performance phases efficient, orderly, and as seamless as possible for everyone involved.
Virtual Design & Construction / Building Information Modelling
Eastern continually advances how projects are delivered, utilizing the latest Building Information Modelling and Virtual Design and Construction technologies to optimize schedule, mitigating risks, and empower better decision-making throughout all phases of construction.
