IBM (CLDC) Data Hall Build-Out

Eastern Construction was selected by CBRE to expand the capabilities of the IBM Canada Research and Development Centre.
Located in Barrie, a facility which opened in 2012, the IBM Canada Research and Development Centre is part of a long-term initiative that provides access for nearly 150 PhD-level researchers and a consortium consisting of seven Ontario Universities to high-performance IBM Blue Gene/Q supercomputers to develop cloud computing based on Agile computing platforms. Agile computing is a coding method utilizing iterative/incremental development techniques where solutions evolve through collaborative input of cross-functional teams.
The scope of work undertaken by Eastern Construction included a 6,000 sq. ft. expansion to the Data Hall along with ancillary support infrastructure such as mechanical cooling, power distribution, redundant power systems, and UPS.
All work took place in parallel with the 24/7 operations of the facility necessitating close collaboration among project stakeholders and users of this critical environment. The project was executed on a fast-track basis, completed over a five month period.
