Toronto Police Service Training College
First net-zero emission police building in Ontario.
The new training facility provides approximately 280,000 sq ft of new building space and parking for 700 vehicles on a 16-acre site in Etobicoke.
The facility houses two gymnasiums, a 300-person auditorium, 28 classrooms, fitness centre, outdoor obstacle course, tactical training village for enacting real-life scenarios, two tactical firearm training ranges, close-quarter battle-room, study spaces, cafeteria, locker rooms, and offices. Along with athletics facilities, the Training College was designed and built to host community engagement programs (school tours, events) and includes interior space for parade and ceremonies. Of note are the mechanical systems which utilize 150-geothermal wells for heating and cooling whose performance was further enhanced vis-à-vis heat recovery systems in areas requiring a high rate of ventilation. The project included a green roof and achieved LEED Silver Certification.
