Royal Ontario Museum OpenROM Phase 1A

OpenROM, will entirely rework the Bloor Street entrance to the museum, add new exhibit space, add more light to the interior atrium, and improve flow between floors and galleries.
Open ROM Phase 1A includes enhancements to the Bloor streetscape, including a new entrance and canopy at the Bloor Street entrance. Also included in the project is a façade cut in the Crystal wing at the pedestrian level with new, clear glazing that will allow greater transparency between the activities of the museum and the pedestrian areas. Inside the entrance, half of the main floor of the Crystal will be transformed to improve the initial visitor experience and improve preticket amenities. This includes a new ticketing area and updated coat check and retail area.
A new “oculus” cut in the main floor ceiling will provide views into the gallery and become the center for a new, radial acoustic wood ceiling that will warm up the space, improve acoustics and conceal necessary IT and AV upgrades. The existing, sloped floor will be replaced with a flat floor, allowing better use of the lobby space and the deployment of museum exhibits, bringing the ROM collection to the pre-ticket realm.
