Evergreen Brick Works

LEED Platinum early adopter of sustainability now considered the most #instagrammable sites.
Eastern Construction played an important part to help Evergreen achieve the goal of creating a destination which has a “triple bottom line”—sustainable environmentally, culturally and financially. Located at the former Don Valley Brick Works on Bayview Ave north of Bloor, Evergreen is a national non-profit environmental organization with a mandate to bring nature into cities through naturalization projects.
With a project value of $35 Million, the industrial site (with 16 buildings) dates back to 1889 and was listed in the Top 10 Geotourism Destinations in the world by National Geographic. The site was redeveloped into a sustainable multi-use complex. In addition to conserving the heritage elements associated with the former industrial site, Eastern constructed a LEED Platinum commercial office complex measuring five storeys coupled to an education centre.
Sustainability initiatives incorporated into the Brickworks project included: photovoltaic arrays, solar chimney, rainwater harvesting, previous hardscaping, ice rink heat recovery, radiant heating, super-insulated envelope, and greenway stormwater management.
