Eastern Construction Company Limited is very proud to be featured in the June 2026 issue of Award Magazine as part of the publication's Company Profile series.
The spread explores Eastern's 75 year history, employee-owned culture, and reputation for delivering some of Canada's most complex and iconic construction projects. Reflecting on the company's longevity, Dean Walker, President & C.E.O., notes, "We've been here for a long time for a reason. I think that's because we're very intentional about our culture." That focus on people has remained a constant throughout Eastern’s history.
Also highlighted within is Eastern's expertise in heritage restoration and adaptive reuse, with Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, Michael Suljak, discussing the unique challenges of preserving historical buildings while integrating modern construction. "A big part of our portfolio involves historical buildings. On some projects, we've had to retain façades while building new structures behind them. It's a challenge, but our team delivers, and clients are very happy with the result."
Mentorship and professional development are recurring themes throughout the feature. As Director of Operations, Heather-Anne Popovich, explains, "The younger generation entering the industry brings new perspectives. They are very clear about their priorities and how they want to work. Our role as leaders is to keep them engaged and help them grow into long-term contributors to the company."
Featured projects include National Ballet School Grand Jeté, the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Toronto Reference Library, Evergreen Brick Works, Audi Midtown Toronto, Rotman School of Management, T3 Bayside, and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority Headquarters.
As Eastern celebrates its 75th anniversary, the feature also looks ahead to what's next. Reflecting on the future of the company, Dean Walker notes, "We're already thinking about the next generation of leaders and preparing them to step into those leadership roles."
We would like to thank Award Magazine and author Natalie Bruckner for recognizing Eastern's history, accomplishments, and the people who have contributed to our success over the past 75 years.
