This 336,000 sq. ft. facility, located at Shuter St. and Victoria St., comprises construction of two nine-storey buildings: the Keenan Research Centre and Li Ka Shing International Centre in Health Care Education. The scope of work includes demolition of an existing parkade, laundry facility and a 7-storey mixed-use building and construction of a new medical research and education building. The new buildings structure is formed concrete with concrete caissons, spread and strip footings. Structural Steel is minimal. Shoring is required for the underground parking. Interior finishes and furnishing are typical for a medical/laboratory facility. By combining research with practical training in a hospital facility, LKSKI serves as a model for other hospitals in this country and for institutions around the world.
